Are you an experienced California-barred attorney with a passion for investigating complex legal matters? We are seeking a talented Investigations Attorney to assist with critical investigations related to district policies, compliance, and employment matters for a California school district. This fully remote role offers an excellent opportunity to leverage your expertise in labor law, employment matters, and Title IX investigations to make a meaningful impact. This role will be part-time (15-20 hours/week), with potential for full-time hours on busier weeks.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Investigations: Conduct thorough investigations into complaints received by the school district, ensuring compliance with federal and state employment and education laws, district policies, and ethical standards.
+ Evidence Collection & Analysis: Gather, review, and analyze evidence, including witness statements, documentation, and other supporting materials, with a focus on accuracy and objectivity.
+ Reporting: Draft clear, well-structured investigative reports that summarize findings and provide legal recommendations for district leadership.
+ Legal Advisory Role: Advise district leadership with well-reasoned recommendations regarding next steps based on investigative findings.
+ Collaboration: Work closely with district leaders, legal counsel, and HR personnel to address employee relations matters and resolve disputes.
+ Confidentiality & Compliance: Operate with the highest level of discretion and confidentiality while ensuring strict adherence to state and federal employment, education, and labor laws.
Requirements
Qualifications:
+ Education & Licensure: Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and active California Bar License (required).
+ Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience conducting legal investigations in employment, labor relations, education, or government settings.
+ Knowledge: Strong familiarity with California labor, employment, and education laws. Knowledge of Title IX, administrative hearings, and public-sector labor relations is highly desirable.
+ Skills: Exceptional analytical, research, and writing skills with the ability to synthesize and concisely summarize complex legal issues.
+ Independence: Comfortable working remotely with minimal supervision and capable of managing multiple investigations simultaneously.
+ Preferred Background: Experience in government agencies, school districts, public-sector labor relations, or conducting internal workplace investigations and compliance reviews is a significant plus.
