The Investigative Reporter/Producer has the ability to mine information from various sources and turn reporting into compelling visual products for multiple platforms. The investigative reporter/producer must be a self-starter, enthusiastic, deeply curious, and able to work well in a team. The main responsibilities of this role include all aspects of story research, newsgathering, reporting, and writing. The producer is expected to transform complex stories into engaging video content using graphics, animations, and field shoots, often managing multiple projects simultaneously. They will research and secure interviews with individuals and sources offering unique perspectives, pre-interview potential characters, develop creative storytelling ideas, verify facts, and gather photos, documents, and other research materials for production. Additional responsibilities include identifying, researching, and sourcing video clips and sound bites from internal and external sources like social media, as well as creating dynamic graphics. Open-source investigative skills, such as deep web research, geolocation, social media vetting, and source development, are essential. The producer will also handle field assignment logistics, including determining locations, virtual site surveys, securing permissions, and conducting shoots for interviews or footage.
