Location: Pocahontas, Iowa

Job Number: 6294

Farm Manager / Beef Cattle Herdsman- responsible for the daily management of a 500-head feedlot operation at Jason Scott Farms in Pocahontas, Iowa. Also assists with other needs related to the farm and beef operations.

Responsibilities and Duties:

● Daily management of feedlot operation

----- Feeding- routine daily feeding, supplements, rations

----- Health-routine herd health procedures such as vaccinations, deworming, fly control, and proper identification. Identify/diagnose health programs and administer proper care or work with veterinarian.

● Data collection and accurate record-keeping: weights, measurements, health records

● Feedlot facility upkeep: pressure washing, manure removal, mowing, maintains fencing and paneling, general farm maintenance tasks to ensure a presentable cattle operation

● Assist with sales and customer interaction: prepare cattle for sale, assist with delivery of cattle to feedlot, assist transportation of cattle for sale, maintain positive relationships with feedlot customers and buyers

● Assist with the production of hay and row crop operation

● Support the overall farm's mission of continually improving the cattle feedlot operation with highest-quality health, feed, operational and marketing management

● Maintain a quality reputation of Jason Scott Farms

Qualifications:

● BS degree in Animal Science (or related field) is preferred, however, a high school diploma with combined 3-5 years of cattle operation and/or management considered.

○ Basic cattle management skills such as nutrition, heard health and performance evaluation

● Valid drivers license and CDL strongly preferred

● Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds regularly

● Good communications skills- verbally, written and digitally

● Basic equipment skills, such as tractors, skid loaders, ATVs

● Availability to work necessary off-hours, evenings or weekends as needed for the highest care and management of the cattle operation

Compensation & Benefits:

● Annual salary of $40,000 dependent on previous experience, 2 weeks of annual vacation and 5 sick days; available housing of 3-bedroom updated acreage with outbuildings less than one mile away from cattle feedlot
